FAQ

What documents are required to obtain a residence permit in Slovenia?

The list of documents for a residence permit depends on the basis, on which you plan to obtain a residence permit. Regarding the study purposes, the main document is a confirmation of enrolment in an educational institution. Employment calls for a work contract; personal business—a fulfilled condition for business activity.

How long does it take to obtain a residence permit in Slovenia?

The period for processing the documents to receive a residence permit is not regulated by the law. However, it also depends on the basis for obtaining a residence permit. Students always have a priority. On average, they receive their first residence permit within 1–2 months from the date of document submission. Businessmen and those who receive a working residence permit must wait for a response from two administrative units, which means that the whole procedure lasts longer. On average, a working residence permit is approved in 3–6 months, depending on the city of Slovenia where the case is being considered.

Do I need to know the Slovenian language to obtain a residence permit in Slovenia?

For the first residence permit, the Slovenian language exam is not required for any application purpose. However, already during the first permit extension, some application purposes will require a language certificate.

How long can I stay in Slovenia with a residence permit?

A residence permit essentially replaces your Schengen visa. This “visa” term is determined by the residence permit validity period, under which you can stay in Slovenia (and the EU) all 365 days a year.

How to move in Slovenia with the whole family?

It is important to understand that each family member should have his/her own basis for obtaining a residence permit. The options for moving, even if it goes about the members of the same family, can be different. However, they can be combined. For example, the father receives a working residence permit, and the children—a study residence permit. In order to determine what purposes are available to your family, it is necessary to conduct a complete identification of your family and develop an individual route. To choose the best way of relocation, we provide the first free consultation, during which we determine the most convenient ways for moving and assist in deciding upon the starting point.
